Congress today confirmed General David Petraeus as the U. S. Central Commander (CENTCOM) and Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno to replace General Petraeus as the Senior military officer in Iraq. Odierno will receive his fourth star.

The vote for General Petraeus was 95 - 2. Two Democrats, Senator Robert Byrd (WV) and Senator Tom Harkin (IA) voted against confirming General Petraeus. Senator Harkin was the lone dissenting vote 96 - 1 against LTG Ordierno.

Certainly the wing nuts at MoveOn.org have to be crying in their milk and cookies. First their obscene advertisement: "General Petraeus or General Betray Us" from September 10, 2007 was a smashing blunder and public relations nightmare. Then the "Surge" worked leaving more egg on their faces and those of their Democrat allies. Finally, the promotion of these two outstanding officers has the anti-war crowd having convulsions.

It is my guess that the real fear that the Democrats have is that at some date in the future, after victory is achieved in Iraq, a retired David Petraeus will enter politics as a Republican and clean the clocks of these nay-sayers. He has my vote!
