The calm during the storm
Courtesy of This Ain't Hell, one of my favorite blogs, comes word of one small area of calmness and sanity during the blizzards hitting the East Coast over the last few days. As was the case during Hurricane Isabel, the one place that is business as usual is the one place that has the most solemn duty-the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier.

While Congress is shutting down and people are cleaning out the shelves of grocery stores, the soldiers that guard this one tomb compete for the honor of standing in the middle of a blizzard to render honor to those who fought and died for their country.
From the WJLA website-
James Allen sent this picture of the Tomb Guard Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The soldier is from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard. The U.S. Army maintains its 24-hour vigil at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Soldiers maintain their vigil every day, regardless of the weather conditions.
