You might not think of a small town of 12,000 people in rural southwest Minnesota when contemplating identity theft, but the Worthington police department is concerned about the problem. They say they’ve identified 36 cases where two people share the exact same name and birth date with addresses listed in Worthington. Worthington is a town with a growing Hispanic population. City officials say they’re drawn to jobs provided by the nearby Swift Pork Plant. Police say illegal aliens are using someone else’s birth certificate to fraudulently obtain state-issued ID cards. More than one person is using the same stolen identity, it would seem. In Worthington alone, there are two Victor Abelenda’s with the same date of birth. Who knows how many more there may be around the state, or across the nation? |

George Bush wants to get the stalled FISA reform bill through a stubborn Nancy Pelosi, and according to a Republican Senator, may have blinked first in the stalemate. Kit Bond (R-MO) says that Bush will modify the immunity provisions of the bill to allow a FISA court to determine eligibility for each specific telecommunications company that participated in NSA surveillance programs. The Bush administration apparently hopes that will get the bill unstuck in the House:

I almost passed on this, but it comes too close to slander to let it go. From that non-partisan blog we all love known as MNBlue, says Charlie Underwood-
Just over five years ago, Minneapolis South High sponsored a debate about the advisability of the looming invasion of Iraq. I wasn't there, but by all accounts it was a rousing discussion, with hot opinions and urgent facts thrown back and forth. Five years later, there was nobody left to debate. There were exactly four people who agreed to be on a panel this morning, all completely against the ongoing occupation of Iraq: Iraq Veterans Against the War Andrew Huff and Brandon Day, as well as local D.F.L. peaceniks Faith Kidder and myself. Not a single person could be found to claim in public that the invasion and occupation had somehow been worth it.
Here comes the BS card-

ICE agents hauled hundreds of suspected illegal aliens out of an Iowa meatpacking plant today after two years of complaints. Agriprocessors will likely place a lot of ads in the Des Moines Register for open positions after losing most of its staff, assuming that its executives can keep themselves out of jail for violations of immigration laws. Agriprocessors is, or rather was, the largest employer in northern Iowa:
At least 300 people were arrested today at the Agriprocessors, Inc. meat packing plant, federal officials said.
The operation, which targeted people who illegally used other persons Social Security numbers and were in the U.S. illegally, was the largest of its kind in Iowa, said Claude Arnold, a special agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Canada has lost track of 41,000 illegals:
Auditor General Sheila Fraser is reporting that Canada's border agency has lost track of 41,000 people who have been ordered out of the country.
In a report tabled Tuesday, Fraser said that the numbers of people in Canada illegally may be growing because the Canada Border Services Agency is failing to monitor its detention and removal decisions properly.
I'm sure there's nothing to worry about here.
