Pitbulls and Pigs Party Update

There’s a lot lined up here for evening 2 here at the RNC, but the real action will not start for a few hours. In the downtime I’m very glad to have the opportunity to wander all the different areas and see how things are done behind the scenes with fellow True North bloggers Marty Andrade and Matt Abe. We’ve been down radio row, seeing Jason Lewis, Dennis Prager, JD Hayworth and Michael Medved, who was talking with David Brooks. We looked around the suites to see how the big shots would be living it up, then back down the to the bloggers cages for a bucket of chum and a glass of swill.

We’ve been marking time for an event I got an invitation to a few weeks back. Kristina Rasmussen who I do work for at the National Taxpayers Union invited me to their Pitbulls and Pigs Party at the Lifer across form the Xcel Center form 4 to 6 tonight. Should be a fun crew of taxpayer watchdog types and a possible talk from Governor Pawlenty. The featured speaker there will be one of our best young Turks in the GOP pork busting team, Jim DeMint R—S.C. I’ll add an update once we get there.

UPDATE 4:00: We made it, The Liffey Pub is fine looking Oirish pub. I picked out Kristina from her web photo as soon as we walked in. It’s one of those relationships you’ve probably experienced: You write back and forth with a person and start a working relationship over the web. You write e-mails, sometimes 10 a day, yet you never meet or even talk on the phone. This is one of those, So meeting her was great.

The swag bags from NTU are a hoot too: pig snouts, rubber crushable stress relief pigs, the latest copy of the NTU “Pig Book”, their newsletter Dollars & Sense a “Don’t Tax Me Bro!” red rubber bracelet, and some other literature. It is easy to see how our own Taxpayers League get their sense of humor and creative spark.

UPDATE, 5:56, Still no sign or T-Paw or Jim DeMint. We'll be slamming the last pint and heading to the Xcel very shortly. Thank you again Kristina.

UPDATE, 6:10: Stop Press...Time is short, but Governor Pawleny and Jim DeMint made it in late and gave the crowd a short speech each to fire the delegates up before heading over to the Xcel
