The Truth about GAMC
As you may know by now, the MInnesota House has sustained Governor Pawlenty's veto of the General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC). As a general reactiion, I say great, just what Speaker Kelliher deserved. But is it what Minnesotans and their health care providers truly need?
It's difficult to know, as most news and web reports focus on the politics, not the issue. Even Almanac is of little help when they continue parade Wy Spano, a charter member of Spiro Agnew's "effete corps of impudent snobs." At least Agnew could pronounce "corps."
Fortunately, David Strom and Margaret Marteen's Pocast #15 explains it all, taking nearly all of that hour explaining it in depth. I now realize why a headline here, even a principle there are insufficient. It's a clear case of how the podcast format is perhaps the best for understanding this truly complex issue.
But be prepared. You may not like what you hear, especially if you continue to believe that Mr. Pawlenty is "the best [Minnesota] governor within memory."
