I’m talking about abortion. Some of you probably see the abortion issue as a minor point in a candidate’s resume. After all, it can’t be as important as homeland security or taxes or education. Maybe you think a candidate should check his or her views on abortion at the door in an effort to “unite” the party or the voters. After all, isn’t electability what we are after in our candidates?

Perhaps abortion is too “political” or just inappropriate for discussion with friends or foes much like personal finances. Wait. You can’t talk about abortion in politics because it is a religious issue. However, churches can’t talk about abortion because it is too “political” and jeopardizes their 501(c)(3) status. Where can you hear the truth? I suggest attending the City Life Center annual banquet on October 12th.

Janet Folger, President and Founder of Faith2Action is the featured speaker. Janet was instrumental in the passage of the nation’s first partial-birth abortion ban. She is a phenomenal, energetic and motivating speaker. I have had the privilege of hearing Janet speak several times over the last decade. The first time, I went reluctantly, having been invited by friends I liked too much to turn down. Since then, I have attended willingly.

There are two things that I remember vividly from my first encounter with Janet:
(1) Without the right to life, none of our other freedoms matter.
(2) A quote attributed to Edmund Burke: “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.”

I strongly encourage you to listen to what Janet has to say. You might just leave a changed person. I know that I did.
