There is one very large barrier between John McCain and the presidency.

George W. Bush

When you’ve seen as many polls as I have, you can see how much the seething hatred most of the population has for Bush is infecting public opinion. One of the polls* I saw on pollingreport.com showed the American public supported McCain and Obama’s actions during the bailout debate. They were split on Democrats and Republicans, but G.W. Bush’s actions pertaining to the bailout were strongly opposed.

That’s enormously silly, as Bush, Obama and McCain had the same position on the bailout.

(To add to the idiocy, most polls show the American public was actually against the bailout, putting Obama, McCain and Bush on the wrong side of the issue entirely.)

Bush carries so much baggage that it cross contaminates everything else in the public sphere.

Including the upcoming election.

I think I have an answer though, and most everyone is going to completely disagree with it, and even doubt my sanity, but here it goes…

President Bush and VP Cheney should resign right now.

Put Nancy Pelosi in charge of the Government for the next few months.

Let the American public see that Bush is really gone, he’s not coming back and someone else will be leading the government. Normally I’m not one to subscribe to ideas of sociological neurosis, but Bush just seems to bring out the irrational in people.

With Bush & Co. out of office, there’s a real chance the American public would finally look at the candidates, rather than hold onto irrational fears about “King Bush.”

“As you may know, the House of Representatives on Monday voted against a proposed 700-billion dollar bill to deal with the current financial crisis. What do you think Congress should do now: pass a bill similar to the one that was defeated, start over and come up with a new plan, or not pass any bill addressing this matter?
