Oprah Winfrey made a statement to The Drudge Report today in response to reports that Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against having Sarah Palin on her show- because of Obama. This despite overwhelming requests from her viewers- women of America who want to know more about the historic Vice Presidential nominee of the Republican Party. Here's the statement:
I know a little bit about TV bookings from my experience with doing PR for "The List". These types of calls are called "evergreens". They put feelers out to see if they can create a show out of a certain topic. This can't be coincidence. Either: 1. They're so dumb they don't know this is up on their website 2. They're indeed planning to have Sarah Palin on the show- which is not happening. 3. (Most Likely) They're indeed planning to do a show around Sarah Palin. They'll feature women with big families (one of the things about Pain that's REALLY making the "Spin Sisters" mad, I contend) these women will point out that is is really hard to "have it all". They'll reference the sacrifices made by the woman's family so that they can do-it-all. Then they'll tie it- ever-so-subtly to Sarah Palin. There will be no "superwoman" after all. She has turned her back on the women of America by refusing to have Sarah Palin on her show. After months of stumping for Obama--NOW she doesn't want to "Get political." Oprah tells women that they can be anybody they want to be. She tells them to follow their passion to find success. Yet she refuses to interview Sarah Palin-a woman who IS a modern-day "Superwoman"! She's somebody who most certainly followed her passionate call to public service -via the PTA for Pete's sake! She's now running for Vice President of the United States of America with the chance to be the first female President. Women want to know more about this inspirational dynamo, but Oprah doesn't want to "get political". Please, give me a break. Well Oprah, this activist turned off your show a couple years back because your politics became to much to bear- and I think many more women will finally be doing the same.
