Showing an unwillingness to follow protest permit rules, anti-RNC activists will protest outside a St. Paul Police Community Services office. From the Anti-War Committee web site:

PROTEST: We Demand the Right to Protest the War at the RNC! Thursday, 11/1 @ 4 PM St. Paul Police Community Services Unit, 1169 Rice Street, St. Paul (Rice & Arlington).

In April, the Coalition to March on the RNC & Stop the War resubmitted their permit applications for demonstrating in St. Paul on September 1st, 2008. The city of St. Paul has not responded to our requests to receive a permit & instead have formed a "free speech" working group. This working group is discussing what rights we will have to protest, but is not considering or listening to what our community needs to demonstrate against the Republican agenda. Come demonstrate at the St. Paul Police Community Services Unit to show your support for having a large anti-war demonstration on the first day of the RNC & for granting us our permit! We will be applying for permits again on November 1st. We will have a picket & press conference outside and will then go submit our permit. Organized by the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War Endorsed by the Anti-War Cmte, Twin Cities Peace Campaign, Welfare Rights Cmte.

Interesting note: The Coalition to March on the RNC is led by Bloomington Jefferson High School teacher and Anti-War Committee member, Meredith Aby. Ironic that she demands free speech to protest the RNC convention, but not for the peaceful assembly of Republicans — and promotes the use of "militant tactics"...

Civil Disobedience Training
Wednesday 7/18 @ 7pm @ Mayday Books, 301 Cedar Ave S, Mpls The U.S. Civil Rights Movement, the United Farm Workers union, the environmental movement, anti-war movements, queer and women's movements, and others have all used direct action to challenge war and injustice. U.S. history - like world history - is full of examples that prove that civil disobedience can be an effective way of creating change. We need to learn from them and use militant and creative tactics as part of our strategy to end the war on Iraq and confront the RNC in 2008! This is a practical training that will give you the information you need to participate in these kinds of actions - whether directly or as a supporter.

Makes one wonder what Ms. Aby is teaching her students in her US GOV&POL I & II classes.
