The Minnesota Climate Change Advisory Group  holds its last meeting today before reporting to the Governor and the Legislature. They are to present options for dealing with the problem of “Catastrophic Manmade Global Warming.” The best solution would be to do absolutely NOTHING. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. There have been times in history when temperatures have been higher, and when CO2 has been higher—not necessarily at the same time. The temperature increases predicted by the UN IPCC for 100 years hence are within this natural range. 

  2. EVERY BIT of “evidence” presented to prove that global warming is taking place does NOT in any way prove that human activity is responsible for it!! This is a critical distinction since, if humankind isn’t causing the problem, we would be fools to try to “fix it.” President Bush was right. We need to adapt to the climate, whatever it is.

  3. The ONLY scientific evidence that CO2 causes global warming—the 400,000 years of ice core data correlating CO2 and temperature-- proves exactly the OPPOSITE— that global warming causes CO2. Think about it. If you take a can of soda out of the refrigerator and put it on the kitchen counter, it slowly warms up and “loses its fizz.” The CO2 escapes as it warms. The Earth has huge oceans that contain CO2. If the sun heats them, you get more CO2 in the atmosphere, though the CO2 increase takes about 800 years after temperature starts to increase, because the oceans are big.

  4. Even if CO2 WERE the problem, which it isn’t, worldwide manmade CO2 is only about 0.008% of the atmosphere. Minnesota’s share of that is roughly 0.1%, and one proposal is to reduce that by one-half. That would have huge negative impacts on our economy and rather small impacts on the atmospheric composition-- 0.000004% (4 millionths of 1%).

  5. The computer models used to predict the temperature rise ASSUME that CO2 will double and ASSUME that such a rise will cause global warming. But recent atmospheric temperature distribution studies show that the warming we have experienced is NOT caused by CO2 and the greenhouse effect at all! These computer models do not even correctly predict the known past, and cannot reliably predict the temperatures next week.  Besides, much of what is "assumed" today can change over the next 100 years.  In short, these computer models are completely unreliable as a basis for sound public policy. (By the way, Al Gore’s “hockey stick” is unadulterated hokum. THAT is a scientific fact.)

  6. It’s cold outside. South America and South Africa experienced record cold last winter. Alpacas froze to death in Peru! It snowed in Baghdad this year. It’s colder now than in 1998. The warmest year on record, according to the latest studies, wasn’t in the 1990s; it was 1934. Weather changes. So what?

SO…. It’s not catastrophic, it’s not manmade (that’s the most important point), it’s not global, and it’s not necessarily warming. Yet the Governor and Legislature are prepared to slap big taxes and regulations on us to solve this non-existent problem? It’s a HOAX, folks!
