The CD 4 convention had a great turnout with lots of new and old faces in attendance. Of course Norm Coleman, Tim Pawlenty, Marty Seifert and Ron Carey showed up to give the pitch for party unity and conservative principles.

The highlight of the day by far was the endorsement of Ed Matthews for the Fourth Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Betty McCollum. Betty is seeking a fifth term. The bad news is Betty won with 70% of the vote in 2006 in a district that has been a DFL stronghold since 1949.

The good news is Ed can win! Chanting “Betty has to go,” the crowd showed that they are willing to work hard to get Ed elected. Ed showed us that he has much more to offer than empty election year promises and he will fight for our principles and values.

Check out his web site here: https://edmatthewsforcongress.com/

National Delegates elected were Bill Jungbauer (39A), Phil Krinke (yes, that Phil Krinke) and Rory Koch (CD 4 Chair). All three will do us proud.

Sorry, I don’t know who the alternates were and I can’t remember who was elected as elector.

We also succeeded in passing many resolutions albeit with lots of justified grumbling about how to hold our elected officials accountable to the platform. We had heard several speakers claim if a candidate is with you 80-90% of the time….. yeah well, we would be thrilled to see some of our elected officials vote our way that often.

We also continued the work of finding strong conservative candidates for senate seats, city councils, county commissioners and school boards. So much potential! Many delegates and alternates also stepped to the plate to offer to run for leadership positions within CD 4.

It was a great day in CD 4!
