Getting the Grass-Roots Right

Written by Jeff Kolb.

I don’t have too much to add on the state of disarray in the Fifth Congressional District.  Nancy LaRoche covered that quite competently in her must-read post here.  (Mitch Berg has been having a parallel experience in CD4.  Read his stuff here and here.)

What I do want to point out to those who may be a bit discouraged is that there is a way to succeed, in spite of feckless and destructive “leadership”.  It just takes some hard work and dedication to the cause.  I’m proud to say that we have a shining example of that here in my home district, SD45 (New Hope, Crystal, Plymouth, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale).

When it became clear that CD5 “leadership” had accomplished their real mission of getting some Ron Paul delegates elected to the RNC and was planning on sitting out this election cycle, we here in SD45 had two choices- complain, or do something about it.

Well, we did something about it.  We raised the cash and opened our own Get-out-the-Vote office, right here in our own district.  Yep, that’s right.  We have a shiny, well stocked, beautiful, spacious office over in Plymouth, funded entirely by Senate District 45.  We have eight phones, sitting there waiting for you to come make GOTV calls.  We have a few computers, donated by SD45 members, to do some data entry.  And we have a big room in the back filled with lawn signs.  There’s even a break room, stocked with a water cooler, and a mini-fridge.

We are very fortunate to have a District Chair, Candace Oathout, who refuses to take “No” for an answer.  In the face of a tremendous amount of negativity and more obstacles than necessary, Candace made this happen.  So now, instead of sitting on our hands and complaining, we have a place to go, and work to get our candidates elected.

We’re having an open house at our GOTV office on Thursday, September 13 at 6:30 PM.  Details here.

So stop by, and see what real Grass-roots look like.

Weeds need not apply.

You know who you are.
