MNGOP Hunger Games: Catching Fire in District 5

Written by Nancy LaRoche.

UPDATE: 9/26/12:

I received notice that the CD5 site is finally up as of today, and you can view it here. Their first post proves my point of where their attention and loyalties lie. -Ed.

On August 30, I wrote about the neglected duties of 5th Congressional District GOP leadership elected in April. The article ignited spirited discussion and some angst with “Liberty” republicans and “Republican” republicans. My intent was to inspire action from the district 5 leadership (especially getting the CD5 website back up), and inspire those in exile to stay involved.

Two days after it was published, I received a call from Deputy Chair Mark Johnson, who returned from the Tampa RNC Convention. He wanted to resolve the website issue immediately. As the website’s sole builder and contributor for the past 5 years, I told him that the Chair responded in June that he would renew the expiring domain name, and I received no response since then. The hosting was also not paid.

His reply was, “We’re not very organized.” It must be very difficult getting sidetracked with a simple payment to keep a district website up when you’re organizing for Ron Paul in Tampa.

I gave the domain name access for renewal to the Deputy Chair on September 1, and concluded my volunteer web duties for the district. Within the hour, they moved the domain name and hosting. Today is September 23, and here’s what they’ve accomplished for the CD5 website:

It’s apparent that CD5 leaders (and current webmasters) cannot seem to peel their priorities away from Ron Paul and an agreed-upon bad RNC rules decision. With a major election 44 days away, what are they planning to defeat Democrats and elect Republicans in the 5th — donations or calling to get out the vote for endorsed 5th U.S. Rep. candidate Chris Fields? No, apparently they are planning a “Liberty Forum” November 17. Note the event is after election day.

At the SD61 GOP meeting Sept. 13 (where Mark Johnson is Chair), they handed out flyers to “put Ron’s principles into action locally.”  One of the organizers was heard stating that the “Ron” in the title could refer to Ron Reagan. I received a copy last week and looked at the bottom, where the agenda item after the welcome is “Video message from Ron Paul.” So, which Ron is it?

“Liberty” is mentioned 11 times in that flier and “republican” only once. A telling line is in one agenda item: “a panel discussion about liberty principles on a local level and why we need libertarian candidates.” My eyes returned to the flyer’s headline, “presented by SD61 Republicans.”  I’m guessing “Republican” republicans aren’t welcome, as it’s clearly geared for Ron Paul libertarians.

Kurt Schlicter appealed to Paul libertarians:

There’s overlap with the Republicans but there is none with the Democrats. And that’s not surprising. Libertarians believe in principles of liberty, as they see them. Liberals believe in raw power to impose their will as they see fit.

Sadly, I’m seeing both beliefs in action by District 5 leadership who want to be builders, but not for the Republican party they represent. They’re not only succeeding in destroying the district organization, but have become the closed establishment they fought to remove.  And the Constitution all sides hold dear is in deeper peril while they support Presidential candidates Gary Johnson or Vermin Supreme and not the endorsed Republican they pledged to support when elected delegates and leaders.

AWOL district 5 leadership believes their “Liberty” Republican movement will catch fire, but maybe not for the reason they think. “Republican” Republicans in exile should begin training for the 2013 “MNGOP Hunger Games” — where leadership will be elected.

If you are among those not liking the alliance of destroyers (Ron Paul supporters or not), it’s up to you to organize an alliance of builders for next year  — AFTER you align with a candidate (like Chris Fields) to win this year. Donate, call, distribute literature, get out the vote for them. In other words, work around the slacker leadership.

After November 6, we’ll soon see which alliance catches fire, and which one takes the heat.
