Job (akaTax) Summit - Apple Valley
You are encouraged to attend a "job Summit" (aka "tax summit"), hosted by the Apple Valley (AV) Chamber of Commerce. We know the C of C supports real job growth, not the government sector control of growth.
Location: Old Chicago Conference Center
Monday, December 14, 9:30 AM (yes, Republicans will be working but you might have time off).
A few facts:
1 - Now the State of MN is the largest employer in the state with more employees than 3M, General Mills, IBM, Medtronic, NWA/Delta etc. Why?
2 - Companies are moving operations out of MN (lately, Medtronic, NWA/Delta) and starting years ago, Burlington-Northern RR, among others.
3 - By one account, MN's corporate tax rate is #3 in the world. (There is room for debate here but regardless of 'other factors' our rate is high)
Why attend? 1 - To hear and give input to DFL leaders (they still seem to think that taxing companies to the point where businesses leave MN is the way to go); 2 - to ask viable questions, that hopefully will get some people to start thinking about realsolutions to the job situation (solutions other than raising ___ tax).
Possible issues to address, politely, please
1 - NWA/Delta headquarters are now in Georgia, not MN; why did they leave? What plans does the DFL have to encourage business to return to MN?
2 - Can you prove to me with real data that government spending (ie bonding bills) actually create sustainable jobs? How does a government bill compare against providing businesses with incentives to create jobs and stay in MN?
3 - How much does it cost the state to create a job - I've heard the figure $100,000 - why not avoid the middleman (the state) and just give a credit or lower tax rate to the private sector?
4 - If the legislature continues its moratorium on nuclear and coal energy development, please explain to me how curbing these energy sources can possibly result in jobs. (It is proven that the "green" revolution will NOT provide enough energy for the future regardless how much is spent on it.)
Create your own question. These are starters. Thanks to Pat Staley, BPOU chair for Apple Valley/Rosemount for raising this red flag.
Hope to see you there.
