The Right to Earn A Living

Written by John R. LaPlante.

In a socialist country, the government owns the means of production. Stupid idea.

In a mixed economy such as we have in the U.S., the government doesn't own many businesses. But it does have control over who goes into business.

Next week one of the great defenders of economic liberty visits the Twin Cities. Free the entrepreneur!

I've worked with various folks from the Institute for Justice over the years, and they're top notch. IJ's president will be in Minneapolis next week. Details follow:

6:30-8:00pm: dinner and program

Summary: Across the nation, the basic civil right of economic liberty is under attack. In industry after industry nationwide, legislators and bureaucrats protect special interests at the expense of countless would-be entrepreneurs who ask for nothing more than the opportunity to pursue a livelihood in the occupation of their choice. Today, one in five Americans must get the government’s permission to pursue an occupation -- a figure that has risen from about one in 20 in the 1950s. Much of this regulation does nothing but reduce competition, drive up prices and prevent people from enjoying gainful employment.

Join the Institute for Justice Minnesota Chapter and the Center of the American Experiment as they host IJ president and general counsel Chip Mellor for a discussion of why we must restore constitutional protection for this precious American birthright.

Cost:
Institute for Justice and American Experiment members: $27.50
