Baby DNA Status

Written by Janet Beihoffer.

For those of you following the fight to protect our DNA from government intervention, this year's efforts worked. At 2:02 AM I received an announcement from Twila Brase, President of the Citizens' Council on Healthcare, (exerpts are below.)

The MN legislature adjourned in the nick of time and the Baby DNA warehousing bill to repeal genetic privacy and DNA ownership rights at birth, never came up for a vote.

Thanks to you, your petitions, phone calls, and emails plus the work of Sen. David Hann, Representatives Mary Liz Holberg and Tom Emmer, Twila's appearance on the Glenn Beck Show, Sue Jeffers' show, and local TV coverage, especially WCCO-TV, the bill was seen for what it really is: a move for government to intrude even more on our lives.

Governor Pawlenty's budget ultimation and refusal to have a special session helped tremendously. The focus became the budget instead of special interests. We are safe for another eight months but much needs to be done in the meantime.

For now, Twila Brase and members of her board thank all who worked to stop this from becoming law.

We can make a difference - this time, we did. Thank you to all. If you want to get more involved with this group and legislation, please feel free to contact Twila at 651.646.8935 or go to the website referenced in the first paragraph. She has done yeoman's work on this effort. She understands the more the government gets into our lives, the less freedom we have.

Cross posted at SCSU Scholars, where you can read Twila's entire announcement.
