Beck's Target Audience...

Written by Derek Brigham.

Yeah, that would be me. But it's not just me. It's my wife, my neighbor, my mom, and almost every friend I talk to. Granted, my circle of friends is largely populated by conservatives and self-reliant people. There are some on the right and center right that beat up on him. But not many that I know, in fact, only one that I can think of. The reason Beck resonates so powerfully is simple. What he supports and what he opposes, and that he promotes these things so very well.

In a nutshell, he supports the founder's principles of our country: natural law, moral and virtuous leadership, free-market economics, peace through strength, family, unalienable rights, the role of man and the Creator. Don't know much 'bout US foundational history and principles? Check out The 5,000 Year Leap by Skousen for the most concise crash course you can find. These things among others are the reason the American experiment has prospered, and the same reason we are rapidly being "fundamentally  transformed" into something else.

What is it he opposes? The things pretty much all conservatives, libertarians, and anyone regardless of party believe in if they regard fundamental fairness, logic and the constitution. The main rallying points from Beck are the same ones you will see on the protest signs at any tea party or outside townhalls: corruption, bloated government, movement from free-markets to socialism, Marxist ideology, party over principle, anti-family. You know, the stuff of radical far-left get togethers where people cheer for revolutionaries like Castro, Che and Mao.

Maybe this is all old hat, but I just wanted to put it out there, that I am proud to be a supporter of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Andrew Brietbart, Mark Steyn, and others that are painted as modern day pariahs. Beck and Brietbart especially is nothing short of a heroes. They are champions of the little guy and not just commenting on the day's events, he and his team are taking it to another level by looking into who big government really is and where the money is going. Isn't this what "journalists" are supposed to be doing? In an era when media is everywhere one would think that stories like this would show up from every journalists with a curiosity...

Earlier this week the White House assigned interim communications director and attack dog Anita Dunn to delver a programmed bashing of FOX News to the media. Who is this Anita Dunn?

In the video below, Dunn cites mass murdering Communist Chairman Mao as one of her two favorite philosophers (the other being Mother Teresa). Delivering this talk in which she cites Mao, Dunn conveys all the charm and personal appeal of Krupskaya.

The above write up was by Scott Johnson at Powerline this morning. It's not unique—nearly everyone on the right with a twitter address has posted on Beck's video with a comment added in to make sure their readers see it. But that is just it. The only people who give a hoot that the white house is populated by radicals are the same people that the media labels as the hate filled pundits. Who is the radical here? Dunn for telling a class of impressionable young students how she embraces Mao, or Beck for reminding people just who the hell Mao was?

Is Beck gaining popularity and making a bucket of cash at the same time. You bet. I bought two of his three #1 bestsellers this year. I also gave out 7 copies of his An Inconvenient Book to friends at Christmas a few years back. Because I am a nut? No, frankly his craftsmanship and message are just that good. I design books and other publications for a living and am critical of both design and content, and if he was peddling slop, I wouldn't be buying. You should too if you support him. But that is just a part of it as Allahpundit observed today:

“Beck appears to be building something. His television show audience is growing, despite a well-publicized boycott, and his radio show calls itself the third highest in the country. (Radio audience measurements can be fickle.) His newsletter has more than 750,000 subscribers. He’s authored three best-selling books. As the attention to Beck has increased — as Beck has become persona non grata among elites — who, let’s face it, also love to cover him as a phenomenon they can’t quite understand — Beck seems to enhanced his standing with his target audience.

Given that 2010 is an election year, it would be logical to assume that Beck is putting together a mass voter registration and mobilization project. It’s a tricky proposition…

Still, if Beck becomes part of the apparatus that fuses into one movement irritated Republicans and angry conservatives and fickle Ron Paul libertarians — he’s going to become a major electoral player in 2010.”

Don't think Allahpundit is big Beck fan, he is pretty critical of Beck's over the top approach and his emotional pleas on camera. Personally I think Beck is a master at what he does. Truly unlike anyone in the business, and that emotional stuff works. He is at the same time informal, straightforward with his agenda, emotionally candid, open about his errors and faults, funny (more so on radio), and beholden to the truth, the constitution, the American people, and of course his advertisers. This is a hard to beat formula. IF a person can withstand the tidal wave of opposition that will fall on anyone who tries to do what he does.

Keep it up Glenn.
