The MNGOP Hunger Games – Fifth District Update

Written by Nancy LaRoche.

Last May at the state convention, I noticed some delegate leads wearing “mockingjay” pins. I hadn’t read the book Hunger Games until last month, and recently caught the meaning of the symbol worn by the Ron Paul delegation in the 5th district. Some joked on Facebook that they were going to pick off all the neo-cons one by one at the convention, and won RNC delegate seats. Another wrote, “may the odds be ever in our favor!” Tampa, here they come!

Meanwhile, as the webmaster for the 5th CD website, I was notified that the domain name and hosting services were expiring in September and contacted leadership (all Paul supporters). The Chair told me he would renew. Since that June notification, the domain name has not been renewed, the hosting not paid, and emails not answered.  Perhaps he was too busy training or getting "styled" for the Tampa games  -- but his lack of response resulted in this:

None of the executive leadership have responded to the web site bill as of today. Then I wondered, was the 5th District organization as a whole part of their kill plan?  There has been no fundraising, no full committee meetings, and no sign of leadership since their election. Mitch Berg wrote about similar issues of idle hands in CD4.

Jason Lewis talked about the misled direction of some Paul supporters who can’t see the forest for the liberty trees. They refuse to elect a better President now to buy the country time for more liberty-minded candidates later. 5th district leaders appear to have no intention of shaping the party, only destroying it. I tend to agree that these Libertarian "tributes" are happily exploiting the Republican party only to advance their sponsor, Ron Paul -- then trashing the vehicle they commandeered.

The 5th CD Ron Paul-sponsored tributes must be eager to hear the boom of a cannon signaling the death of a local political organization.

But none have sounded yet. There are other tributes in exile, camping out in the trees or camouflaged in the earth making reforms and helping elect deserving candidates. While the seeming victors run around Tampa plotting their next kill, the real players are working to bring the GOP back to its founding party principles. They kick out bad candidates and replace them with better ones (read Cindy Pugh).  In the 5th, our tributes put up a joke “honey badger” candidate who recently announced he’s voting Vermin Supreme for President. I thought republican delegates pledged to support endorsed candidates in their own party. But honey badgers don’t give a sh*t. Their hunger game strategy is becoming clearer.

When the 2012 games are over, those with the real survivor skills will win. And those who seek to destroy will lose more than a game. They will have lost credibility and respect – two things that are very hard to rebuild once destroyed. The 2013 games will be interesting.

To the exiled players in my district (Paul supporters or not), ignore the destroyers and focus on alliances with your candidates, including Chris Fields. Don’t worry about a fallen political organization, because you are building up for wins in your cities.  After November 6, you will be celebrating while they sit in the corner of a bar (adorned with mockingjay pins) proclaiming, “we showed them!” while the district website and their demolition movement goes dark.

Boom.
