A Conservative Christian View of Sarah Palin

Written by Kermit.

A certain intellectually challenged commenter on [Anti-Strib's] blog has made repeated snarky comments about the Palin family's potential as Jerry Springer Show guests. Now, I don't even know if that program is still on the air, but the comment is very informative. It shows just how small-minded, mean-spirited and truly pathetic many of our neighbors on the Left can be.

Because one of the things we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism. - Barak Obama, DNC keynote address, 8/28/08

I guess the Democrat mainstream media are going to pick and choose which from mandates The Anointed One hands down. They haven't got around to criticizing her makeup yet, but I'm sure that's coming.

So, regarding "family values", they aren't just some rigid set of premises. Family values are derived from a moral foundation that is based on love. They are predicated on the imperative to preserve and protect the family. They also often require sacrifice.

My mother always said "You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family". How true. Many people choose to make a family. Some do not. The simple fact is, human life is precious. It is a gift. You can honor that gift and accept responsibility for it, or you throw it in the garbage. You have a choice, and the morality of the fact could not be more clear.

Sarah Palin's daughter made a mistake. It is a life changing mistake. As a family, they have chosen to honor life and embrace morality by bringing an out-of-wedlock child to term and giving it the gift of a married mother and father. Christians have a word for this: redemption. Christians also believe that all humans are by nature imperfect. That is the sole reason that God sent his only son to become human, to redeem humanity. Not to abrogate free will, but to offer an opportunity.

The leftists and the critics are so quick to throw their phony feminism under the Hopey Changitude Bus when they see a potential weakness in a rival. Political advantage trumps principle in the liberal mind. They seem to be so blind to their own hypocrisy that they can ask, with a straight face "Can a woman really handle a family, a down syndrome baby, a husband with two jobs and a pregnant teen, and still withstand the rigors of campaign, let alone the responsibility of the Vice Presidency?" What arrogant hubris.

Sarah Palin's choices reflect both her character and her commitment to principles. In the face of a nasty, cold blooded attack on her child, she will stand up tonight and declare to the world that a woman can be strong, focused and resolute. Those are the qualities of a leader. In the opinion of this conservative Christian, she has faced a hard challenge and backed it down. She has taken the hard path, rather than the easy out. And she has been honest. She is the kind of person I would trust to lead. Damn the slime, full speed ahead.
