Kill the Bill Rally
I attended the "Kill the Bill" rally today in St. Paul along with my husband and a neighbor.
There were so many great people there! Crowd estimate was 4,000. (Pictures posted)
Saw the beautiful Lynn McHale, Republican State Delegate and Tom Emmer for Governor supporter.
Saw Jennifer DeJournett, the founder of VOICES of Conservative Women
SawNorann Dillion, running against Terri Bonnoff for State Senate in Plymouth (District 43)
Saw Andrea Keiffer, running against Marsha Swails for State Representative in Woodbury (District 56B)
Saw the great conservative radio host, Sue Jeffers, who emceed the event
Saw my favorite, Tom Emmer, who's running for Governor.
Saw our conservative Congressman John Kline and Congresswoman Bachmann.
Handed our some "Cool Conservative" Business cards (you can't sell on the Capitol Grounds!) But mostly I was there to shout loudly with my fellow Minnesotans to "Kill the Bill!"
Bachmann gave one barnburner of a speech- about 20 minutes long- If it's up on youtube, I'll post it. She let us know if the Democrats don't dot their i's and cross their t's on this legislation then it will not be an legitimate bill as outlined in the Constitution. (I think her speech is going to get some headlines.) She also said that if this bill passes we can no longer say with a straight face that we are free people.
In the Boston Tea Party post, right before the Scott Brown victory, I said this:
If Brown wins, it's only one case of tea thrown in the harbor. The rest of the bounty gets tossed in after the liberals play their final hand. When Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Emanuel/Axelrod conspire to push ObamaCare through despite the vote in Massachusetts. The final routing of the Constitution and our carefully crafted representative Republic. Do they dare? Of course they do.
Then we're talking tax revolt. We're talking about the rebelious resolve of circa 1773 Boston taking hold. April 15th, tax day. There are already National Tax Day Tea Parties planned with a big one scheduled outside the White House. What would happen to this country if those of us who pay 87% of all federal income taxes simply said "no thank you"?
Go ahead Dems, call us "Radicals". Compared to the radicals of the Boston Tea Party, we're a bunch of pussycats. Compared to Obama's political friends, we're novices. But in the game of negotiation, we hold all of the power. The power to walk away from the table. Then let's see who the real radicals are....
Michelle Bachmann captured today what I know many people are thinking. The smart and savvy tax attorney captures the spirit of the founding of this country, the spirit of rebels who took risks to do what they thought was right for the Republic. Bachmann doesn't worry about re-election, she worries about the future of the country and will say and do whatever she thinks is right to stand up for what she believes in. It's like a breath of fresh air. She called on us to keep fighting, keep pushing until the end. I think I may head down to Senator Klobuchar's office this week and give her a big crate of tea.
All was peaceful. I talked to the state patrol officer who told a guy with a pitchfork that he had to put it back in his car. Me: "Were there people with pitchforks?" Officer: "Yes, they don't know that those can be used as a weapon." Me: "I think it's a prop." Officer: "Well, if it were being waved in your face you might not say that." Me: (Big smile and pat on his shoulder) "I know you're trying to do your job, thank you for being here. Officer: "I know it seems silly." Me: (Another Big Smile and Nod) Yes, it does.
I think about all of the people who were probably packing heat at that rally...the idea that a pitchfork was the "weapon" that needed to be dealt with as an imminent threat still has me chuckling.

This is funny. I was walking around looking for media and I found this guy...Me: Are you from the media? Guy: Yes, I'm with Channel 5. Can you get me an Interview with Congresswoman Bachmann?" Me: No, but I might know somebody who can. Stay right there. I find Sue Jeffers and ask if Bachmann has a staff person this guy can talk to, Sue walks back with Congresswoman Bachmann! Michelle: "Hi, are you Channel 5" Me: "No, uh, wait right there." I run back to the guy waving at him and yell "Hey, Channel 5, Over here!" I even checked his media credentials (I dont' want to be known as the blogger who "set up" Michelle Bachmann.) I snap a picture of the photo-journalist doing the interview with Bachmann, but don't include her in the picture. Husband "That was dumb." Hmm, husband's right. Reason #49 why I'm a blogger and not a journalist.

Because two flags are always better than one:
The lonely (and only) counter-protesters: (let's see how the media covers them, shall we?)
Many people, one cause: Freedom from tyranny. Cross posted at www.theactivistnextdoor.com
