New 6th, Becky Mocks Anoka's Bachmann, Pete Is Drafted
Sorry, I've been a wee bit busy with plowing and political duties. For 6th "Districters" not to be confused with distractors, below is what I put together for the CD6 website.
As you may have heard from the DFL friendly press, Congresswoman Bachmann has decided to run for the 6th despite being drawn into the new 4th. Now, the media is gleefully running with the DFL talking points about how Bachmann is running from Becky McCollum. Sorry, but Bachmann was raised and went to school in Anoka. You are not required to live in your District. Something that prevents GerryMandering like this from ousting politicians they can't beat at the ballot box. DFLers hated the idea of combining Minneapolis and St. Paul for this reason as the did the idea of splitting/merging CD7 & 8 in Northern Minnesota. The fact is that some candidates saw their Districts protected while others saw theirs changed in ways that raise questions.
The Redistricting Plan overall is good, but there re small things that make you wonder why they did what they did. Like how people complained that the 6th District wrapped the northern and western conservative leaning suburbs in some wandering design.... But the new plan cuts Bachmann's home out on the east side but adds new territory way down and all the way around on the southwest side of the metro.
The new 6th wraps all the way from Wisconsin to St> Cloud and way down to southern Carver County. A new area for CD6. Considering the area lost by CD6 to the 7th West of St. Cloud which also shares Carver County, you kinda have to scratch your head. Now the courts said they didn't want to protect incumbents and such, but you can't shrug off some of the decisions made to redraw the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th that forced this one.
Anyways, I support Bachmann's run for her home area of the new 6th District.
Oh and some news on the race for Mark Dayton's US Senate seat.... ( a play on the DFL & media meme that liberal politicians own their seats and Republicans try to steal them or run away......)
The answer to the final question in that is yes!
Here's the info from the CD6 website I did. (Note if you're looking, the SOS has a map with the CD & Legislative District lines. Linked below)
The Minnesota Courts released the new Redistricting maps today. The 6th District remains largely the same, giving some on the East and far West and picking up some turf south of Wright County.
