Ellison forced into primary

Written by Erin Haust.

While walking the neighborhoods of Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, knocking on doors and sharing her message of conservative principles, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to the laws set forth in the Constitution, Barb Davis White had a revelation of sorts.

Barb had previously sought the Independence Party's endorsement, but with the 60% threshold not being reached by any candidate, she then began the process of gathering signatures of residents in the 5th to get her name on the ballot this fall.  What she found was that her neighbors were seeking a different kind of candidate for their district.  They wanted someone courageous enough to stand up to the typical, politics as usual, tow-the-party-line candidates and finally speak for the people.  They wanted a real choice in candidates and it doesn't matter what political party they represent.

Barb had far surpassed the 1,000 signatures needed to run but continued her quest to listen to the constituents of Keith Ellison's district.  She continued to knock on doors and share her stance as a conservative constitutionalist, but had learned that the signatures she was getting were not necessarily from Republican households. An overwhelming majority were from Democrats!  Democrats fed up with the antics and selfishness of Representative Keith Ellison.  With that knowledge, Barb knew she needed to make a bold move.

From her press release:

"All I had to do was listen to what my neighbors were telling me. Hundreds of signatures were obtained in the past few days – certainly enough to meet the 1,000 needed for filing as an independent candidate – but what struck me was how many registered Democrats signed the petition knowing that I am a pro-life, conservative constitutionalist. It didn’t seem to matter as long as they knew I was running against Keith (Ellison). What I heard loud and clear was that the 5th District wants a choice in candidates, so I’m giving it to them. I’m not running for a political party – I’m running for the people of the 5th district.”
Ellison, who has made headlines last year when he purposely got arrested for civil disobedience at a protest in Washington, D.C., will now be forced into a Democrat primary in August. The people of Minnesota’s 5th District will definitely have a choice this election season.
